What we check in the video

We inspect the material itself, not just a platform label. Three layers work together:

Fully AI-generated clips - for example from Sora, Veo, Kling or Runway.
AI edits and deepfakes, where real footage has been altered.
Provenance: where C2PA Content Credentials are attached, we verify their signature - valid provenance outweighs any model score.

What sets this detector apart

Five result classes instead of two: we also have “inconclusive” and we use it. Anyone who only ever outputs AI or real has to guess when evidence is thin.
Link instead of a download detour: for TikTok and YouTube the link is enough. Instagram often works, but not always - then you simply upload the file.
Up to 50 MB per file, so longer clips in good quality get through too.
Traceable: you see which layer was decisive and how strong the indication was - not just a bare percentage.
Provider based in Germany, with a legal notice and German data protection law.

What to look for in an AI video detector

There are many free detectors, and they differ more than it looks at first glance. Four questions worth asking before you use one:

Is the tool allowed to say “I do not know”? A detector without that option will still hand you a result on difficult material - guessed, but stated with confidence.
Does the provider also sell tools that defeat AI detection? Some detectors sit on sites whose actual business is making AI content invisible to checkers. That is a conflict of interest.
Does the provider say where its detection hits limits? Anyone advertising only accuracy and naming no limits usually has them anyway.
Who operates the service, and under which law? For a school, newsroom or public authority a legal notice is not a formality but a prerequisite.

Where the check hits its limits

No video detection is 100 % certain, ours included. Heavily compressed reposts, very short clips and brand-new generators are the hardest cases. When the evidence is not enough, we say so - being honestly unsure beats accusing someone wrongly. How we check and where exactly the limits lie is set out openly on our methodology page.

Is the AI video detector free?▾

Yes. Checking videos is free and requires no sign-up.

Which videos can I check?▾

You can upload a file (MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 50 MB) or paste a link to TikTok, YouTube or Instagram. With Instagram, retrieval does not always work - private accounts and stories cannot be retrieved. In that case simply upload the video directly.

How long does the check take?▾

Usually around 30 to 60 seconds. We check several layers one after another instead of a single still from the video - that takes longer than a quick check but carries a more robust result.

What happens to my video?▾

The original is deleted from operational storage after the analysis. What is stored permanently, and which rights you have, is set out in the privacy policy.

What does “inconclusive” mean?▾

That the traces in the material are not enough for a robust statement - typical for heavily compressed reposts. It is not a failure but the honest answer. More on this under methodology and limits.
