AI or Authentic? in the classroom

The 5-minute lesson idea

1. Minute 1: Play one of the example videos below straight from the projector - nothing to search for, nothing to download.
2. Minute 2: The class votes: AI or authentic? A show of hands is enough - put the tally on the board.
3. Minutes 3-4: Open the answer and show the result. The class collects: how could you have spotted it?
4. Minute 5: Project the spotting checklist. Transfer question: "What does this mean for videos that get sent to you privately?"

Spotting checklist for the class

• Look at hands and fingers: how many, how they join, unnatural movements.
• Check the physics: water, shadows and reflections often behave wrongly in AI videos.
• Read the text in the picture: signs, logos and subtitles are often blurred or make no sense.
• Judge the camera movement: overly smooth, overly perfect moves point to AI - real phone videos wobble.
• Compare sound and picture: does the ambient noise fit the scene, do the lip movements match?
• Check the source: who posted it first? And: even professionals get it wrong - when in doubt, combine the detector with healthy doubt.
